Do we control compliance… or do we assemble it when someone asks for it?
In many organisations, compliance appears to be under control. Policies exist, procedures are documented, and forms are signed. In addition, there are regulations that require concrete evidence: records of PPE distribution, signed proof of training, and records required by standards or audits. Everything seems to be documented. But does that guarantee that compliance actually occurred? Anyone who has worked in operations knows that the answer is not always. In day-to-day work

Does paper control processes… or does it only make us believe it does?
In many organisations there is a sense of control simply because there are forms, signed checklists and completed spreadsheets. Everything is documented. Everything is archived. Everything appears to be under control. But an uncomfortable question is: does that actually control the operation? Paper documents. But it does not necessarily control. A form can be completed, signed and filed… and the process may still have been executed incorrectly, incompletely or out of sequence

Did you choose to work in Safety… or in form administration?
Those of us working in Health & Safety / Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) know the true purpose of the role: To be in the field. To observe. To anticipate. To intervene before a deviation turns into an incident. Yet in many organisations, the daily reality looks rather different: Checklists. Photos. Writing reports. Consolidating findings in Excel. Producing PDF reports. Sending emails. Manually following up actions. Reminders. Rebuilding documentation for audits. And th

The blind spot in operational safety: the “during” of execution
In many organisations, safety is well designed. What is not resolved is something else: ensuring that safety operates while the work is actually happening . Because real risk is not decided in the procedure, nor in induction, nor in an audit. It is decided in execution: when conditions change, interferences appear, the plan is adjusted, pace increases to maintain operational continuity, and decisions are made with incomplete information. And that is where a familiar pattern ap

The new reality of Operational Safety: why traditional models are no longer enough
For decades, operational safety was approached through a relatively stable framework: clear rules, documented procedures, periodic training, and on-site supervision. That model — with variations — helped reduce accidents and professionalise risk management across many industries. However, operational contexts have evolved faster than safety models. Today, many organisations face an uncomfortable paradox: more rules, more procedures, and more training, yet results are not improv

The new reality for frontline teams: why procedures, training and paperwork are no longer enough
In day-to-day operations, every task matters . Every step carried out correctly can mean the difference between work that is safe , efficient and compliant , and work that is not. And yet, many organisations still try to solve the challenges faced by frontline teams using the same tools as ever: increasingly lengthy procedures, more documentary controls, and isolated training sessions. The issue is that the context has changed — and it has changed permanently. Operations ar
